Imagine obtaining a visa that doesn’t confine you to one country—a visa that enables you to visit 29 countries! Yes, you won’t need individual visas for each nation, allowing you to travel to all these places on one visa.
A Schengen visa is like a master key that unlocks the doors of 29 (and an additional 10+ countries) European countries and beyond. It is a dream visa for travellers who want to explore enchanting European cities, enjoy their culture, indulge in mouth-watering food, and more. A Schengen visa can unlock all the possibilities.
However, getting a Schengen visa from Bangladesh is not easy. It requires a long list of documents and applicants’ qualifications. However, if you present your documents correctly and work on a bit for your profile building, your visa will most likely be accepted.
Well, you have worked on the documents and strategically built your profile, and now you are fully ready to apply?
How do you select from which consulate you want to apply for your Schengen visa or wonder which Schengen visa is easy to get from Bangladesh?
Allow us to provide you with an overview. As one of the top visa consulting companies in Bangladesh, we have extensive experience in handling Schengen visas for Bangladeshi applicants and deeply understand how Schengen consulates operate in the country.
The country you wish to apply to depends on your travel plans and where you intend to spend most of your time. For example, if you plan to visit Sweden, Norway, and Denmark but wish to stay in Sweden for an extended period, Sweden is your primary Schengen country. Consequently, you will need to apply at the Swedish consulate in Bangladesh.
If you have a flexible travel plan and getting Schengen visa approval is your top priority, you should think strategically. You must collect data and know which consulates are more flexible in issuing visas at the time of your application.
Types Of Schengen Visas

The Schengen visa is a visa that is issued by the European Union for temporary or short stays of up to 90 days, mainly for tourism or business purposes. This visa allows you to travel freely within 27 European countries. It has many types, but primarily it has four types. Let us break it down for you.
- Type A (Airport Transit Visa): Basically, this visa is issued so that you can pass through the airport’s international terminal of the Schengen area. However, it does not allow you to enter the Schengen countries. It is valid for 24 hours. However, some transit visas are issued for upto 5 days for road trips to another country. (type B)
- Type C (Short-Term Visa): This is the most common type of visa. Most travellers get it for tourism or business purposes. It allows you to travel within the Schengen area for up to 90 days in 180 days. The visa can be issued for a single, double, or multiple entry.
- Limited Territorial Validity Visas (LTV): This specific type of visa permits you to travel only to the Schengen nations that issued the visa. These visas are usually issued in exceptional cases when a type B visa cannot be obtained.
- Type D National long-stay visa: This visa is required for any foreign national who wants to travel, study, work, or stay in a particular Schengen country for 90 days to 1 year. D-type visa holders can travel freely to other Schengen areas.
Depending on the purpose of the trip, you will have to choose the correct visa category and submit appropriate documents.
Does Schengen Consulate Matter In Visa Approval?
Ideally, all Schengen consulates follow the same visa guidelines while deciding on a visa application. However, in reality, the approval and refusal rate varies from consulate to consulate. If you look at the historical data, some consulates have huge refusal rates, whereas others refuse a few applications.
Look at the latest Schengen visa statistics available on our website:
Does the data tick a bell for you? Italy has the maximum number of refusals (at a staggering 59%, whereas, Switzerland refused only 21.9% of the applications.
So, if you are applying today and would like to maximise your chances of approval, which one would you choose?
Consulates Issuing Visas In BD And Which One Is Easier?
In Bangladesh, there are 7 European embassies that issue visas. Currently, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, and Sweden have a resident embassy. However, each embassy is assigned as the consulate to represent other Schengen nations that do not have an embassy present in BD.
Details of the Schengen jurisdiction and where you should apply for your visa have been well explained in our jurisdiction guide. However, here is an overview for you:
- Embassy of Denmark: This embassy also represents Norway, so anyone who wants a Norwegian visa can apply through the Denmark embassy. No appointment is required; you can submit the application through VFS Global.
- The Embassy of Germany: You can also apply for an Estonian visa at this embassy; however, an appointment is mandatory. Processing time can take around four weeks.
- Embassy of Italy- you can apply for Greece, Italy, Malta, and Slovakia from the Italian embassy in Bangladesh. Prior appointment is required; you can submit the application through VFS Global Italy.
- Embassy of France: In addition to France, they are assigned consulates in Portugal and Austria. An online appointment is mandatory, but securing one is difficult these days.
- Embassy of Switzerland: You must make a phone or email appointment, and processing can take up to 5 days. The Embassy of Switzerland also accepts applications for Liechtenstein and Hungary.
- Embassy of Sweden: Sweden is the only embassy where you can apply for a visa for multiple countries, including Belgium, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and Slovenia. You need to make an appointment with VFS Global.
- Embassy of Spain: This Embassy only processes visas to Spain. You can apply through the Spain Visa Application Centre Saimon Centre. However, all the documents need to be translated into Spanish. The process can take 15 to 20 days.
Which Schengen Visa Is Easy To Get From Bangladesh
We already discussed which embassy processes which countries’ visas. However, each embassy has different process times and procedures.
Getting a Sweden visa is easier in terms of appointment, and the process is faster too. So if your documents are accurate and you are eligible, then you can get the result in 15 days.
The Italian Embassy process can take longer, sometimes even months. However, the document process is easier.
The Embassy of Switzerland requires a physical interview, and documents are also necessary. Like Switzerland, the French embassy takes interviews too. It can take a minimum of 10 days to process your application for short stay and 1 month for long stay applications. However, getting an appointment at these consulates is difficult.
On the other hand, the German embassy takes longer to process from Bangladesh, and it is hard to get an early appointment.
Mistakes To Avoid During The Application Process
We often make quite a few mistakes while applying for a Schengen visa which can cause the refusal. If you are careful, then you can easily avoid these mistakes and get a visa. Let us discuss the common mistakes to avoid during the application process.
- Incorrect or Missing Documents: Perhaps the most common mistake is to submit incorrect documents or not submit important documents; as an applicant, you need to keep that in mind and make a document checklist. Check the particular consulate’s website for a complete document checklist, and match it with your final submissions.
- Insufficient Finances: You need to have a strong financial fund that will cover your entire trip to Schengen countries. If your financial fund is insufficient, then the visa might be refused.
- Poor Travel Itinerary: Your travel itinerary has to be strong; if the travel plan is weak, then your visa can be rejected. Also, you can’t expect to download a random travel plan from the internet and get your visa approved.
- Late Application Submission: Travellers often make this mistake. They need to submit their application in advance before their intended travel date. If you submit at the last moment, and the embassy can’t process the visa before your travel date, the visa might be refused.
- Lack of Travel History: To establish that you are a traveller, you must have an extensive travel history. A weak travel history can raise a red flag, eventually leading to rejection.
- Invalid passport: Your passport has to be valid. An invalid or damaged passport does not leave a good impression and isn’t accepted. If you have a mismatch between your old and current passport, you must explain it and provide additional legal documentation.
- Failed interview: Some embassies require an interview, and you may be refused if you don’t answer correctly.
Other common mistakes include failing to provide accommodation details, having insufficient travel insurance, not explaining the purpose of the visit well, not booking round-trip air tickets and many more. If you are not well versed in Schengen visa regulations, it is highly recommended that you consult with an expert and work together to secure your first Schengen visa.
We can help you navigate the complex world of Schengen visas and ensure your visa process is hassle-free and smooth.
