Sri Lanka Tourist Visas from Bangladesh

Bangladeshi who want to visit Sri Lanka for a short time (even less than 30 days) are required to have a Tourist Visa. First, let’s see what you can do with that visa:

  • Sightseeing/holidaying, 
  • Medical treatment including Ayurvedic and yoga, 
  • Participate in sporting events
  • Visiting friends and relatives 
  • To attend a cultural performance
  • Participate in Competitions and activities relating to sports

You can apply with either-

  1. Applying online for ETA
  2. Or can APPLY FOR Sri Lanka visit VISA AT THE HIGH COMMISSION

Method 1: Through (ETA) – Applying Online

ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authorization. Sri Lankan Government opens this facility for tourists of all members of SAARC (South Asian Association For Regional Co-operation) including Bangladesh.

It is called- SAARC Passport.

While other passport holders have to pay $35.00, SAARC Passport holders can pay only $20.00(Sri Lanka visa fee for Bangladeshi) to visit Sri Lanka. The payment method is also totally online.

Bangladeshis who wish to travel to this Island nation for less than 30 days can apply for Tourist visa with double entries through www.eta.gov.lk. The Requirements to apply online are-

  • Valid Passport
  • Photograph (digital)
  • Valid e-mail address
  • Digital Payment method

The processing time is usually within 3 working days.

If you did not receive the confirmation within 2 working days by email, you might have to check the visa status at www.eta.gov.lk. 

Beyond that……..

The ETA of 30 days (from the date of arrival) can be extended for up to 3 months for visit purposes. But please note that you have to pay an extension fee to the Department of Immigration & Emigration, Sri Lanka.

Discloser:

With the ETA or tourist visa, one cannot engage in:

  • Any business/ profession
  • Social or charity work  
  • Any other form of voluntary work 
  • Or employment paid or unpaid 

For those, you need to obtain prior visas from the Department of Immigration & Emigration.

Method 2: Applying for Sri Lanka Tourist Visa At the High Commision

The Srilankan HIGH COMMISSION in Bangladesh keeps an alternative way for those who are not used to online e-visa. The applicant can get a tourist visa by post or in person at the High Commission visa counter in the Sri Lanka Embassy, Dhaka.

The visa fee and validity are the same. But you need to pay the fee (20$ for Bangladeshis) in Cash. And it’s not non-refundable.

The Required documents are:

  • Valid passport (passport should be valid for six months)
  • Visa application form (available in the downloads section) 
  • 2 recent photographs – passport size
  • Air ticket
  • Bank endorsement of USD200
  • Travel itinerary
  • Relevant Visa fee

The processing time is again 3 working days and get the visa between 3.30 p.m to 4.30 p.m. And the time of submission is 9.30 a.m to 12.00 p.m(Sunday to Thursday).

Sri Lankan Transit Visa

Yes, the foreign ministry is issuing a Transit visa for up to 48 hours currently at their official website. It is now free of charge but one should have an ETA reference number). For any queries regarding transit visa, you can contact-
